It’s Thursday morning. I awoke at 5:09 to the rain outside my window.
I could have gotten up, but no. I stayed in bed because it was still dark out, and I didn’t have a full schedule this morning.
Why, oh why, do we ever think that’s a good idea? Don’t we always feel so much worse after lying there for a couple of hours? Not to mention going in and out of sleep.
So now, here I sit, guzzling coffee to try to quiet the pounding in my head.
(Yes, I had my lemon water first)
I’m going back over my day yesterday and realizing why I feel so crappy and almost ‘dried up inside’ this morning.
After about seven weeks of being dialled in with my nutrition and fitness, which has included;
6-8 servings of fruits and veggies every day
adequate amounts of water
enough protein and healthy fats
yoga twice daily
walking 5-8k each day
kayaking a few hours a week
Yesterday I fell completely off track. Not on purpose – not to binge or anything – I just got lazy.
Does this ever happen to you?
I started my day with a smoothie. It had four servings of fruits and veggies, about 50 grams of protein, and some healthy fats, so I was off to a good start.
I went out with a friend for lunch (it was much needed and fed my soul immensely- which counts for a LOT!) and had gluten-free fish tacos with salad – not a horrible choice!
Supper – here’s where I should have dialled it in a bit better and filled in the gaps from the day. Instead of guzzling water when I got home, I had a couple of wine spritzers. Then, I warmed up some gluten-free pizza from earlier in the week and had it with watermelon.
Not the worst choice in the world, but I definitely could have done better.
Here’s how I sabotaged myself;
I only drank about 1/2 of the water I needed
My body never moved – at all!!
I shorted myself about 20 grams of protein
Alcohol is not my friend
I didn’t eat enough healthy fats, which made me want the carbs more
I stayed up late binge-watching a series I don’t particularly enjoy instead of spending time writing or reading while I had the house to myself
This morning, I’m checking in and realizing/remembering how bad it feels to deprive my body of what it needs.
How often do you connect the dots between behaviours and actions to your overall health?
So many times, the women that I work with have turned this ‘feature’ off. They’re so used to feeling crappy, having mild headaches, drinking copious amounts of caffeine to get through the day, and feeling tapped and yucky that they think it’s normal.
We’ve been led to believe that it’s all a part of aging, but I’m here to scream from the rooftops that it’s NOT NORMAL !!
Waltzing into your second act does not have to involve feeling defeated and just living with being out of steam. I promise.
If you’re ready to get some help with getting back on track and knowing EXACTLY what your body needs each day, there are a few ways we can work together
