When I got home yesterday, there was a bag of freshly picked herbs sitting at my door. A relative of ours grows the most beautiful garlic and my mother-in-law had left me a bunch, knowing that I use it with almost every meal.
Garlic is a natural antibiotic. It’s a cleanser for the blood and aids the liver in detoxifying the body. If you’re trying to live a healthier life by repairing a leaky gut, balancing bacteria in the digestive tract, building your immunity, balancing blood sugar, or reducing cholesterol, then garlic must be on the menu!
Garlic is affordable, easy to purchase locally (please don’t purchase the 3-packs from China!), and freezes well to use all year round. Once it’s been frozen, the taste is actually stronger so you’ll need less in your recipe. It took me about 10 minutes last night to peel some of the garlic for the freezer. It goes on a plate until it’s frozen and then into a baggie to enjoy in the winter months when we can’t purchase it fresh. This is a health hack that’s affordable and easy, for sure.
The best way to use garlic is in a salad dressing (because you’re eating salad every day, right?) Simply crush garlic and add to extra virgin olive oil and some freshly squeezed lemon juice. This is an excellent tonic for the liver and gall bladder. In fact, if you’re experiencing gall bladder issues, you may want to consider a gentle gall bladder flush with just this dressing. Drink a bit daily and it will gently flush built-up toxins from the gall bladder.
