Human design is a system that marries Astrology, The Kabbalah, The Chakra System and The I-Ching. Your Human Design chart is based on the planetary placements 88 days before birth and the exact moment of your birth. In your Human Design you’ll find a roadmap of your health, your greatest gifts, how you’re meant to work, your energy in relationships, your purpose, and more.

Human design is gifted knowledge.
In 1987, it was transmitted by a man we now know as Ra Uru Hu.
He was born in Montreal Canada as Robert Allan Krakower.

Ra often said that the Human Design system is not for us, it’s for the children who will come after us. He had a passion for raising children according to their own unique strategy and authority so that they could live life without the conditioning that is so prevalent in society.

He offered insights into the 2027 Human Design Mutation that is coming that will bring us into our next planetary cycle, the Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix (Gates 55, 59, 20 and 34).

Where does human design come from?

Human design is a blend of the Hindu Chakra System, The Jewish Kabbalah, Astrology, and the Chinese i-Ching.

When you look at your own Chart, you may notice that it resembles diagrams you’ve seen of the chakras in the human body.  The difference between the Chakra System and Human Design is based on the 1781 Mutation, where we went from being 7 centred beings to 9 centred beings.

When you look at the Human Design Mandala, you’ll notice that it resembles the i-ching.  The 64 gates in Human Design originate from the i-ching and follow each verse’s meaning.

When you turn a Human Design Chart upside down, you’ll find that it resembles the Tree of Life as seen in the Jewish Kabbalah.

Finally, the planets you’ll see along both sides of your chart are an aspect of Astrology.  It’s interesting to follow how planetary transits affect your Chart, once you get the hang of the basics.

Human Design and Astrology

Human Design is a snapshot of 2 moments in time.  One about 88 days before your birth (88 degrees of the Sun before your birth), and the other the exact moment of your birth.

The red numbers on the left side of your chart are your Design. These numbers represent the planetary alignment 88 days before your birth, through the gates of your Human Design.  This is your subconscious.  When you look at these numbers and their messages, they may not resonate as quickly as your Personality (black) numbers will. Often, if you ask others about these traits, they will know them to be true about you.

The black numbers on the right side of your chart are your Personality. These numbers represent the planetary alignment at the moment of your birth, through the gates of your Human Design. This is your conscious.  When you look at these numbers and their messages, you’ll probably resonate more easily with them.

To get your bodygraph or chart, you’ll need your birth time and place.  It’s a snapshot of 2 moments in time.
1 – 88 days before your birth when your soul is called into your being
2 – the moment of your birth

We see where the planets were aligned in your subconscious and conscious being by looking at both of these moments and from this, we see this magical one time event that is you!

How important is exact birth time in Human Design?

As you can see above, knowing your exact birth time is of utmost importance.  Because we are looking at a snapshot of this moment in time, the information it gives us needs to be accurate. 

That being said, I have worked with several clients who had no idea what time they were born.  There are many days in the Human Design calendar where your Type, Strategy and Authority will remain the same, no matter what time of day you were born. If this is the case, you’ll be able to have the most important information that you need to live your life by design.  Believe me when I say that even knowing this much information will be life changing in how you relate to the people around you, how you make decisions, the career you’re designed to have, and more.

There are other days in the Human Design calendar where even this information changes rapidly.  I’ve run charts with clients who’ve come up against this and it can be super frustrating.

What if I don’t know my birth time?

You may be surprised to find out that just by asking around, you can get a better idea of the time of day you were born.  In a Human Design Challenge I ran recently, one of the women commented that she remembers her mother saying that she was born in the morning, not at an inconvenient time. She decided on 9:30 am.

Another remembers her sister saying that she got to come home from school, to meet her new sibling, just before the buses on the day she was born. She decided on 2:30 pm.

Still another remembers hearing that her father had to come in from the barn where he was milking the cows early in the morning to take her mother to the hospital.  She decided on 5:00 am.

There really are all kinds of clues around us, when we listen.

Human Design Types

Depending on who you ask, there are 4 or 5 Human Design types. 
They are:

Manifestor Human Design – Manifestors initiate.  They are the only type that is designed to do so. Because of this, Manifestors are powerful beings.  People are often repelled by Manifestors as their aura tends to be more closed and uninviting.  This is because they don’t NEED people to get things done.  Manifestors make up about 11% of the population.

Generator Human Design  – Generators respond to life around them. They are not designed to initiate although they will have been conditioned, throughout their lives, to do so. Generator types have an open and enveloping aura. They take everything in because they are meant to be responding to the world around them. Generators make up about 37% of the population.

Manifesting Generator Human Design
The Manifesting Generator is, for all intents and purposes, a Generator.  Many Human Design coaches consider the Manifesting Generator a type on its own but it’s really and truly a Generator type therefore, the Manifesting Generator is here to live in response to life around them. Manifesting Generators make up about 33% of the population. While some would fight me on this, my lived experience as a Manifesting Generator tells me that things go much more smoothly in my life when I respond and then inform those that will be affected by my actions.

Projector Human Design – Projectors wait to be recognized and/or invited. That is, when they are living according to their strategy, they do. Projectors have a focused and penetrating aura. Projectors make up about 20% of the population.

Reflector Human Design – Reflectors are karmic mirrors.  They are here to reflect the health of their communities. It is said that Reflectors have a sampling aura in that they are sampling the happenings in the community to reflect it back.
Reflectors make up about 1% of the population.

Each type has its own strategy for showing up in the world.  When we follow our Human Design Strategy, life will flow more easily and naturally for us.  It’s like having an invisible compass that guides on life’s journey.

Human Design Authority

There are 7 possible types of Inner Authority in Human Design.
Your Inner Authority is your compass or intuition. It’s the best way to make no-regret decisions in life.

They 7 types of Inner Authority are:
Emotional Authority
Sacral Authority
Splenic Authority
Ego Authority
Mental Projected Authority
Self Projected Authority
Lunar Authority

Human Design Emotional Authority

If this is your Authority, the bottom triangle on the right hand side of your Human Design chart will be coloured in or defined. You are here to feel your way through life, and this includes your decision making.
Your emotions will naturally flow in waves through your body and depending on the gates that are defined, you may have high highs and low lows or just little dips.

The important thing to note here is that there’s no truth in the moment for you. Clarity only comes over time. What feels like a yes today may be a no tomorrow. In fact, you may go back and forth a hundred times before landing on a decision about something big!

It’s normal for you to never really feel certain of anything – especially if you also have an undefined Ajna.  The rule of thumb is that if you’re emotionally defined, about 70% certainty is the most you can hope for.

No matter how many centres are defined in your Human Design chart, if your Emotional Solar Plexus is defined, as is shown in the photo below, you are an Emotional Authority. About half of the population is emotionally defined.

Human Design Sacral Authority

If this is your Human Design authority,  when asked a question or faced with a decision, you will get an immediate HIT or sacral response. An uh uh or an un huh that will tell you if it is a yes or no for you. We often refer to this as a gut feeling.

This will over-rule everything for you. It’s your response in the moment, and it’s always correct.  When you are tuned in, it is your compass. What comes out of your mouth first is your YES. 

HAVE PEOPLE ASK YOU YES OR NO QUESTIONS and ASK YOURSELF YES OR NO QUESTIONS to tone your sacral response. Open ended or multiple choice questions make it harder for you to answer from your body.

Your sacral response is your biggest influence, but you still need to wait to respond, which can be frustrating!

Only Generators and Manifesting Generators can have Sacral authority. If the Emotional Solar Plexus is defined in your chart, it will override the Sacral and you’ll be an Emotional Authority. Otherwise, your authority will be Sacral.

Human Design Splenic Authority

If this is your Human Design authority, your answer to something in  the moment is correct. Your Spleen will give you the intuitive hit that you can trust. This splenic pulse will tell you for small and big decisions. Listen to it. Once it speaks, you won’t hear it again so learn to pay close attention to this instinct. Play with this and learn how your spleen speaks.  Is it a smell? A sound? A feeling? Whatever it is, you can trust it.
The picture below shows where the Spleen centre is located in the Human Design chart. If the Emotional Solar Plexus is also defined, it will overrule the Spleen and you’ll be an Emotional Authority.

Human Design Ego Authority

Manifestors can have Ego Authority and very rarely Projectors with the 25-51 channel defined will have it. If this is your Human Design authority, the will or ego centre will be connected, through a channel, to the throat centre, in your Human Design chart.
With ego authority, there’s no waiting involved, provided that the right resources are in place and that you are well rested for the task at hand. As long as this is true for you, the decision is correct.

The picture below shows you where the Ego or Will centre is located in your Human Design chart. If your Emotional Solar Plexus is also defined, it will override your Ego Centre and you’ll be an Emotional Authority.

Human Design Mental Projected Authority

If this is your Human Design authority, you have a channel from the throat centre to the Ajna or from the Ajna centre to the head centre and your solar plexus and spleen are undefined. In fact, if you are a Mental Projected Projector, all of your centres below the throat will be undefined.
You need to talk through your process, not to get advice, to hear yourself come up with the answer. A sounding board, if you will. You need a container to unpack your decisions so that you have complete clarity around them.

Only Projectors can have Mental Projected authority.

The chart below shows what this could look like.

Human Design Self Projected Authority

If this is your Human Design authority, you have a channel from the G centre to the Throat centre and your Spleen and Solar Plexus Centres are undefined.

You need a sounding board to process your decisions.  You need to speak in a completely authentic way, never filtering what you’re saying to suit your audience.  You’ll hear yourself speak from your heart and know that this is the correct decision for you.

Only Projectors can have Self Projected authority.

Human Design Lunar Authority

If this is your Human Design authority, it means that you need to wait out the entire cycle of the moon, or 28 days, to gain clarity before making any big decisions. Reflectors will also need a sounding board to process their thoughts.

It should be noted that some decisions take longer than 1 cycle of the moon to process, and that’s ok!

Only Reflectors can have Lunar authority.

Human Design Not Self Theme

In Human Design, the ‘not self theme’ is what we experience when we’re not living life according to our design.

Not Self theme – Anger

The Manifestor will most often experience anger. There are many ways and reasons that this can show up for the Manifestor.  One reason is that they have been conditioned away from their power and this creates a slow burning anger. Another is when their non-verbal, creative flow is interrupted.  Still another is when they are not living their Human Design strategy, which is to inform (and to be informed!) 

Not Self Theme – Frustration

Frustration is the emotion that will most often be experienced by all Generator types (including Manifesting Generators) When Generators try to initiate, invariably, things will go wrong.  Generators are here to live in response to things going on around them.  They also have a two steps forward, one step back, way of learning things and building expertise.  This can lead to frustration in the Generator type, and inevitably quitting too soon.

Not Self Theme – Bitterness

Bitterness builds in the Projector over time as they are looked over for promotions, talked over in groups, and generally undervalued by society.  When Projectors are not recognized or invited to participate, it creates a bitterness in their spirit, especially when they are not rested. 
Projectors need rest in order to be able to say yes to the correct invitations.  The problem is that often they are so fearful of missing the invitation, that they say yes to everything and are not prepared for the right invitation when it comes along.

Not Self Theme – Disappointment

Disappointment is the not self theme for Reflectors. Reflectors are here to sample the auric field around them and they can see the highest potential in those around them. As a result, reflectors are often disappointed in their communities.
