Human Design Gate 40 is the Gate of Aloneness.

People with Gate 40 defined are here to work hard for their community. They’re designed to have cycles of rest built into their work. This is a gate that requires alone time and there can be an aloofness here. Bargains and contracts live here. Clear boundaries are a must for someone with this gate defined.

Location of Gate 40 in your Human Design Chart

Gate 40 is located in the Heart Center of the bodygraph or human design chart.

The 37-40 Channel and Gate 40’s Human Design Circuitry

Think of Human Design Circuitry as the circuit board that lies beneath the rest of your design. Circuitry is the thing that all other aspects are placed upon. It lays the foundation and the energies here never change.  

There are 3 main circuits in Human Design: Individual, Collective, and Tribal. 

This gate is part of The Channel of Community (37-40). This is tribal energy, part of the Ego Circuit (as this is a Will Centre gate). As a Projected channel, it’s important that rather than you always trying to fit in, you see which communities call you out or recognize your gifts and focus your attention there.

Family and community is very important to you with this channel defined, and agreements are of utmost importance.

Tapping into Gate 40’s Energy

How does Gate 40 show up in your chart, and how can you tap into that altruistic energy? Start by taking a look at your own chart to see if Gate 40 is defined (the line is colored in)  or undefined (the line is blank). Next, look at the Heart Center to see if it is defined (colored in) or undefined (blank).

Defined Gate 40 in a Defined Heart Center

If Gate 40 is defined for you in a defined centre you have access to this energy always. It’s part of who you are. You work tirelessly for your people and you have willpower like nobody’s business BUT you get tired. You are designed to allow yourself to rest. You’ll often wonder if people really like you because you feel like there’s something ‘off’ about you, even when you’re surrounded by fans.

Defined Gate 40 in an Undefined Heart Center

If Gate 40 is defined for you in an undefined centre it is considered dormant. It will be activated when you are with someone who has gate 37 (The Gate of Friendship and Family) defined OR when a planetary transit defines this gate.

Accessing Energy with an Undefined Gate 40

If Gate 40 is undefined for you, fear not! 
You’ll have access to the energy of this gate when you are with others who have it defined and/or through planetary transits. You can borrow this energy by being in the aura of someone who has it defined.

Unveiling The Shadow of Gate 40

The shadow of Gate 40, according to Gene Keys, is exhaustion.
Remember that you are designed to have cycles of rest, no matter what your type!

Richard Rudd (Gene Keys) explains that Gene Key 40 moves from exhaustion, through resolve, into the experience of the divine will. He explains that when we push through our exhaustion, using every ounce of our resolve, we deny the Divine inside of us.

A personal exercise for Gate 40 awareness

Am I pushing through energy that I don’t have? Is it time to rest?
