Human Design Gate 31 is The Gate of Leading.

Gate 31 is the gate of influential leadership. It cannot lead without buy in from the people it’s leading though. Think of this as the type of leadership we see in a politician. In fact, many times it’s referred to in Human Design slang as the Gate of the Politician. They have a knack for seeing a better future and bringing people into this vision but they don’t necessarily take us there. 

Location of Gate 31 in your Human Design Chart

Gate 31 is located in the Throat center of the bodygraph or human design chart.  

The 7-31 Channel and Gate 31’s Human Design Circuitry

Think of Human Design Circuitry as the circuit board that lies beneath the rest of your design. Circuitry is the thing that all other aspects are placed upon. It lays the foundation and the energies here never change.  

There are 3 main circuits in Human Design: Individual, Collective, and Tribal. 

This gate is part of the Channel of The Alpha (Channel 7-31).
Reluctant leadership lives here. The more reluctant you are to step into your leadership (with this channel defined) the better the leader you will be. Within this channel lives the voice of a leader, someone people will listen to. You’re able to show us the way and take us with you, rather than ruling over us as someone with Gate 45 would. This is a Generated, Collective Channel.

Tapping into Gate 31’s Energy

How does Gate 31 show up in your chart, and how can you tap into that leadership energy? Start by taking a look at your own chart to see if Gate 31 is defined (the line is colored in)  or undefined (the line is blank). Next, look at the Throat Center to see if it is defined (colored in) or undefined (blank).

Here are the possibilities:

Defined Gate 31 in a Defined Throat Center

If Gate 31 is defined for you in a defined centre you have access to this energy always. It’s part of who you are. You’re a natural leader who people long to follow.

Defined Gate 31 in an Undefined Throat Center

If Gate 31 is defined for you in an undefined centre it is considered dormant. It will be activated when you are with someone who has Gate 7 (the Gate of The Army), defined OR when a planetary transit defines this gate.

Accessing Energy with an Undefined Gate 31

If Gate 31 is undefined for you, fear not! 
You’ll have access to the energy of this gate when you are with others who have it defined and/or through planetary transits. You can borrow this energy by being in the aura of someone who has it defined. 

Unveiling The Shadow of Gate 31

The shadow of Gate 31, according to Gene Keys, is arrogance. Ouch.
Richard Rudd (Gene Keys) explains that Gene Key 31 moves from arrogance through leadership, to humility. In the shadow, it’s all about needing to be recognized. It’s about being so uncertain of yourself, that you continually seek external validation. In its highest expression, it’s about surrendering everything you think about yourself, humbling yourself in order to serve those you’re here to lead. 

A personal exercise for Gate 31 awareness

Where am I seeking external validation in my life? If I wasn’t looking for something outside of myself, what would I do instead?
