Introduction to Human Design Gate 13 and Gene Key 13

Human Design Gate 13 is the gate of the listener. People with this gate are natural listeners. They are the people who others will seek out to tell them all of their secrets. They may be at a party, in a line at a grocery store, or at school pick-up and all of a sudden someone is unloading on them. They’re left wondering, “What the heck just happened?” because the other person has just told them their entire life story – without being asked to share!

Gate 13 is located in the G center of the bodygraph or human design chart.

The 13-33 Channel and Gate 13’s Human Design Circuitry

Think of Human Design Circuitry as the circuit board that lies beneath the rest of your design. Circuitry is the thing that all other aspects are placed upon. It lays the foundation and the energies here never change.  

There are 3 main circuits in Human Design: Individual, Collective, and Tribal. 

Gate 13 forms part of the Channel of the Prodigal. It’s a projected channel that’s part of the sensing circuit.

Channel 13-33 is one of deep privacy.
It needs to retreat from time to time. When it returns, it has stories to tell. The retreat is giving the 13-33 the time it needs to process past experiences so that we can all learn from them. Think of the 13-33 in your life as a wise elder, holding the stories and lessons of the tribe. Often, people with this channel defined have an ‘insider advantage’ in that they hold onto what they’ve heard and always know what’s going on under the surface.

Tapping into Gate 13’s Energy

How does Gate 13 show up in your chart, and how can you tap into that trustworthy energy? Start by taking a look at your own chart to see if Gate 13 is defined (the line is colored in)  or undefined (the line is blank). Next, look at the G Center to see if it is defined (colored in) or undefined (blank).

Here are the possibilities:

Defined Gate 13 in a Defined G Center

If Gate 13 is defined for you in a defined centre you have access to this energy always. It’s part of who you are. You tend to be a private person who is a really good listener.

Defined Gate 13 in an Undefined G Center

If Gate 13 is defined for you in an undefined centre it is considered dormant.  It will be activated when you are with someone who has Gate 33 (the Gate of Privacy) defined OR when a planetary transit defines Gate 33. The themes of hanging gates in undefined centres often play out in relationships. 

Accessing Energy with an Undefined Gate 13

If Gate 13 is undefined for you, fear not! 
You’ll have access to the energy of this gate when you are with others who have it defined and/or through planetary transits. You can borrow this energy by being in the aura of someone who has it defined. 

Unveiling The Shadow of Gate 13

The shadow of Gate 13, according to Gene Keys, is discord.
Richard Rudd (Gene Keys) tells us that discord is all about hearing only the shadow frequencies, the crisis, or the bad news. It’s about being attuned to the vibration of chaos.

A personal exercise for Gate 13 awareness

This is a gate of the G centre.
The G centre is all about love and direction. Gate 13, in its highest expression, is about empathy. I’d love for you to contemplate where you have empathy towards yourself, or where you’re living in discord.

Embrace the Human Design Gate 13 Mantra:

 I hear, I listen, I empathize. Through it all, I remain true to myself.
