Introduction to Human Design Gate 44 and Gene Key 44

Human Design Gate 44 is the Gate of Alertness. In Gate 44 lives an instinctual awareness of the past. Past patterns live in cellular memory and with Gate 44 defined, you feel them deeply AND are loathe to repeat them. You can smell a rat long before anyone else and will also smell success. I once had a client with this gate defined who said that she can smell a banana being peeled from another room, on another floor, of her house! The important thing to note is that this is survival. It’s a felt experience more than something that is known or understood. It’s just there.

Location of Gate 44 in your Human Design Chart

Gate 44 is located in the Spleen center of the bodygraph or human design chart. 

The 44-26 Channel and Gate 44’s Human Design Circuitry

Think of Human Design Circuitry as the circuit board that lies beneath the rest of your design. Circuitry is the thing that all other aspects are placed upon. It lays the foundation and the energies here never change.  

There are 3 main circuits in Human Design: Individual, Collective, and Tribal. 

This gate is part of the Channel of Surrender (Channel 44-26).
It’s Tribal Energy and is a Projected channel. If the whole channel is defined for you, you carry the energy of a personnel manager, a negotiator, and a salesman. Integrity is always coming up for you. Whether you’re bumping up against it by getting lessons around it, or it drives everything that you do, it’s always there. With the entire channel defined, your work energy is meant to have cycles of rest built into it.

Tapping into Gate 44’s Energy

How does Gate 44 show up in your chart, and how can you tap into that instinctual energy? Start by taking a look at your own chart to see if Gate 44 is defined (the line is colored in)  or undefined (the line is blank). Next, look at the Spleen Center to see if it is defined (colored in) or undefined (blank).

Defined Gate 44 in a Defined Spleen Center

If Gate 44 is defined for you in a defined centre you have access to this energy always. It’s part of who you are. You have an innate sense of smell. You can smell a rat and can see a past pattern about to be repeated with your eyes closed. Integrity is of utmost importance to you.

Defined Gate 44 in an Undefined Spleen Center

If Gate 44 is defined for you in an undefined centre it is considered dormant. It will be activated when you are with someone who has Gate 26 (the Gate The Egoist), defined OR when a planetary transit defines this gate.

Accessing Energy with an Undefined Gate 44

If Gate 44 is undefined for you, fear not! 
You’ll have access to the energy of this gate when you are with others who have it defined and/or through planetary transits. You can borrow this energy by being in the aura of someone who has it defined.

Unveiling The Shadow of Gate 44

The shadow of Gate 44, according to Gene Keys, is interference.
In the lowest expression, this gate houses deep, cellular fear. Fear of past patterns repeating. This fear drives us to try to control everything, therefore we interfere.
Richard Rudd (Gene Keys) explains that Gene Key 44 moves from interference, through teamwork, into synarchy.  
The dictionary defines synarchy as joint rule or sovereignty. Richard Rudd explains that it is exactly the opposite of interference. It’s non-interference. It’s trust that there is harmony and that everyone works together to create a beautiful orchestra.

A personal exercise for Gate 44 awareness

Where am I interfering rather than allowing harmony to naturally unfold?
