Introduction to Human Design Gate 20 and Gene Key 20

Human Design Gate 20 is all about living in the present moment. People with this gate defined are REALLY good at living in the now. The trouble is, sometimes they forget about anything beyond the present moment. Depending on what other gate it’s connected to, it can be part of a channel of power, intuition, or authenticity.

It can be connected to 3 different centres to form a channel:
34-20 – Only Manifesting Generators will have this Channel of Charisma
57-20 – The Channel of the Brainwave
10-20 – The Channel of Awakening

Location of Gate 20 in your Human Design Chart

Gate 20 is located in the Throat center of the bodygraph or human design chart.

The 34-20, 57-20, and 10-20 Channel and Gate 20’s Human Design Circuitry

Think of Human Design Circuitry as the circuit board that lies beneath the rest of your design. Circuitry is the thing that all other aspects are placed upon. It lays the foundation and the energies here never change.  

There are 3 main circuits in Human Design: Individual, Collective, and Tribal. 

As part of the throat centre, Gate 20 is a verbal gate. When it isn’t connected to a motor, it may speak unpredictably. In the case of the 10-20 channel, you may be a verbal gunslinger, speaking your truth before thinking it through.

Channel 34-20 is the Channel of Charisma. It’s a design of Power, especially power in the moment. People with this channel defined in their Human Design will be Manifesting Generators. This is the only Manifesting Generated channel in the bodygraph. They are busy, busy, busy, most often for themselves.

Channel 57-20 is the Channel of the Brainwave. This channel is highly acoustic as Gate 57 is the Gate of the right ear. Noise may bother people with this channel defined, specifically sound that is off key or annoying. Chatter will drive them crazy. This is an intuitive channel that sees the truth in the now.

Channel 10-20 is the Channel of Awakening. This channel is part of the Integration Circuit. It’s Projected energy and is a design of following your own path and being yourself, no matter what. You naturally empower others by being and loving yourself. 

Tapping into Gate 20’s Energy

How does Gate 20 show up in your chart, and how can you tap into that self-assured energy? Start by taking a look at your own chart to see if Gate 20 is defined (the line is colored in)  or undefined (the line is blank). Next, look at the Throat Center to see if it is defined (colored in) or undefined (blank).

Here are the possibilities:

Defined Gate 20 in a Defined Throat Center

If Gate 20 is defined for you in a defined centre you have access to this energy always. It’s part of who you are. You are someone who is comfortable in the present moment and you speak in the now.

Defined Gate 20 in an Undefined Throat Center

If Gate 20 is defined for you in an undefined centre it is considered dormant. It will be activated when you are with someone who has Gate 34 (the Gate of Power), Gate 57 (the Gate of Intuition) or Gate 10 (the Gate of Treading) defined OR when a planetary transit defines any of these gates. The themes of hanging gates in undefined centres often play out in relationships.

Accessing Energy with an Undefined Gate 20

If Gate 20 is undefined for you, fear not! 
You’ll have access to the energy of this gate when you are with others who have it defined and/or through planetary transits. You can borrow this energy by being in the aura of someone who has it defined.

Unveiling The Shadow of Gate 20

The shadow of Gate 20, according to Gene Keys, is superficiality.
Richard Rudd (Gene Keys) explains that Gene Key 20 moves from superficial to presence through the gift of self assurance. This Gene Key is perhaps the most self aware in the Human Design bodygraph, or rather it is supposed to be. 

A personal exercise for Gate 20 awareness

As you move through your day, notice how often you are not present. How much time do you spend on thoughts of the past or the future instead of this very moment?
