Introduction to Human Design Gate 8 and Gene Key 8

Human Design Gate 8 is all about contribution. People with this gate defined are here to impact the world. They lead by example, often being the first to experience something in order to bring it to the world. Authenticity is key with this gate. They’re often referred to as rebels with a cause and they feel their cause deeply. They tend to lead their people to new discoveries and things that they feel passionate about. They’re the early adopters along the way.

Location of Gate 8 in your Human Design Chart

Gate 8 is located in the Throat center of the bodygraph or human design chart. 

The 1-8 Channel and Gate 8’s Human Design Circuitry

Think of Human Design Circuitry as the circuit board that lies beneath the rest of your design. Circuitry is the thing that all other aspects are placed upon. It lays the foundation and the energies here never change.  

There are 3 main circuits in Human Design: Individual, Collective, and Tribal. 

Part of The Channel of Inspiration, 1-8, people defined here are creative role models. This is a projected channel that is part of the knowing circuit. With the entire channel defined, you’re here to empower others simply by being you, all of you.
There is natural leadership in this channel but often people with this channel aren’t that interested in leading. They prefer to be the example. Often, they have a flair for dressing differently, being artistic, or standing out in some way.

Tapping into Gate 8’s Energy

How does Gate 8 show up in your chart, and how can you tap into that creative energy? Start by taking a look at your own chart to see if Gate 8 is defined (the line is colored in)  or undefined (the line is blank). Next, look at the Throat Center to see if it is defined (colored in) or undefined (blank).

Here are the possibilities:

Defined Gate 8 in a Defined Throat Center

If Gate 8 is defined for you in a defined centre you have access to this energy always. It’s part of who you are. You’re a natural leader whose creative expression matters more than anything else. You’re here to make a contribution and you feel it in your bones.

Defined Gate 8 in an Undefined Throat Center

If Gate 8 is defined for you in an undefined centre it is considered dormant. It will be activated when you are with someone who has Gate 1 defined OR when a planetary transit defines Gate 1. The themes of hanging gates in undefined centres often play out in relationships.

Accessing Energy with an Undefined Gate 8

If Gate 8 is undefined for you, fear not! 
You’ll have access to the energy of this gate when you are with others who have it defined and/or through planetary transits. You can borrow this energy by being in the aura of someone who has it defined.

Unveiling The Shadow of Gate 8

The shadow of Gate 8 , according to Gene Keys, is mediocrity. Ouch.
People with Gate 8 defined are not here to be mediocre. There’s something that you’re here to do and it’s time to get busy doing it. Do not settle for the status quo! The world is waiting on your contribution.

A personal exercise for Gate 8 awareness

Do you feel a deep need to contribute?
Do you know you’re here to have an impact?
What is it you’d love to do?
One of my favourite verses always makes me think of this gate (it is my Conscious Sun, so I feel this deeply).
