I’m addicted to coconut oil. You know the stuff – that white, solid, stuff in the jar? Hard as a rock at room temperature? Yep! I love it and you should too. It’s a powerhouse of healthy fats.
It’s good for so many things, such as:
- skin health
- brain health
- heart health
- metabolism
- your teeth (through gum pulling)
The medium-chain fatty acids in coconut oil are highly beneficial to our health. They are very easy for our bodies to digest and will not clog arteries like trans and hydrogenated fats will. Somewhere along the line (I blame the 80’s), we became a nation of fat-phobics. We NEED fat in our diets, for everything from keeping our skin supple and healthy, to keeping our brains functioning optimally. Our systems are not meant to run “fat-free.” Enter one of nature’s perfect fats. It’s tasty too!
Some things that I do with coconut oil are :
- cook with it
- put 1 tbsp in my smoothie each morning and blend well
- put it on my skin – especially in the winter months
- spread it on my toast in the morning
- add a tsp to my oatmeal
I recently purchased this cookbook and I am loving all of the recipes I’ve made so far. You may want to pick up a copy if you’d like to incorporate coconut oil into your diet.
