Introduction to Human Design Gate 39 and Gene Key 39

Human Design Gate 39 is The Gate of Provocation.
With this gate defined, you’re designed to provoke emotions in others. This can be by doing or not doing or saying something. Depending upon your own mood, you can provoke joy or misery in someone else. There is a point to your provoking though. This is flirtatious energy that is testing the waters between your spirit and someone else’s.

Emotional eating lives in this area of the Human Design chart. As a way of coping with stress, you may either eat or stop eating to relieve the pressure. 

Location of Gate 39 in your Human Design Chart

Gate 39 is located in the Root center of the bodygraph or human design chart.

The 39-55 Channel and Gate 39’s Human Design Circuitry

Think of Human Design Circuitry as the circuit board that lies beneath the rest of your design. Circuitry is the thing that all other aspects are placed upon. It lays the foundation and the energies here never change.  

There are 3 main circuits in Human Design: Individual, Collective, and Tribal. 

This gate is part of the Channel of Emoting (Channel 39-55).

This is deeply emotional and creative energy. You’ll experience deep highs and lows of emotions, often turning to the arts to express your moods. Key for you is in appreciating the dips in your emotions because there’s gold there for you, especially as it relates to your creativity, clarity and relationships. You may experience long periods of time where your emotions don’t get the better of you and then suddenly have a fit of rage, seemingly out of nowhere. Emotional eating lives here. 

Tapping into Gate 39’s Energy

How does Gate 39 show up in your chart, and how can you tap into that provocative energy? Start by taking a look at your own chart to see if Gate 39 is defined (the line is colored in)  or undefined (the line is blank). Next, look at the Root Center to see if it is defined (colored in) or undefined (blank).

Defined Gate 39 in a Defined Root Center

If Gate 39 is defined for you in a defined centre you have access to this energy always. It’s part of who you are. You’re someone who moves through life, naturally provoking emotional reactions in others. This isn’t always bad!! The part that’s bad is how you’ve been conditioned to dim this part of you or think that it’s a place you need to ‘work on’ to be ‘better’.

Defined Gate 39 in an Undefined Root Center

If Gate 39 is defined for you in an undefined centre it is considered dormant. It will be activated when you are with someone who has gate 55 (The Gate of the Spirit), defined OR when a planetary transit defines this gate.

Accessing Energy with an Undefined Gate 39

If Gate 39 is undefined for you, fear not! 
You’ll have access to the energy of this gate when you are with others who have it defined and/or through planetary transits. You can borrow this energy by being in the aura of someone who has it defined.

Unveiling The Shadow of Gate 39

The shadow of Gate 39, according to Gene Keys, is provocation.
Richard Rudd (Gene Keys) explains that Gene Key 39  moves from provocation, through dynamism, into liberation.

I love that word, liberation.
Other words to describe liberation are deliverance, unchaining, and extrication.

In the highest expression of this gate, you find deliverance of all of the ways you’ve held yourself back from part of your divine purpose, which is to provoke the feelings of others.

When you stand in this, rather than constantly filtering yourself, you’ll uncover the best part of you. Further, you won’t find yourself being provoked by every little thing. You’ll have a deep sense of who you are and be attuned to the frequencies around you.

A personal exercise for Gate 39 awareness

Make a list of some of the ways you hold yourself back or put a ‘nice face’ on to keep yourself soft and gentle, rather than provoke a reaction in someone.

Embrace the Human Design Gate 39 Mantra:

I naturally provoke feelings in others and that is my gift.
