Introduction to Human Design Gate 29 and Gene Key 29

Human Design Gate 29 is all about commitment.

In traditional Human Design, it’s called The Abysmal (depth). Gate 29 is all about committing to the right things. It’s committing to things without knowing where they’ll take you, and being ok with that.
It’s the gate of saying YES to life!
Gate 29 distinguishes what’s worth committing to and what is not. Be wary with this gate defined as you’ll not easily get out of commitments once you’ve said yes.

Location of Gate 29 in your Human Design Chart

Gate 29 is located in the Sacral center of the bodygraph or human design chart.

The 29-46 Channel and Gate 29’s Human Design Circuitry

Think of Human Design Circuitry as the circuit board that lies beneath the rest of your design. Circuitry is the thing that all other aspects are placed upon. It lays the foundation and the energies here never change.  

There are 3 main circuits in Human Design: Individual, Collective, and Tribal. 

This is part of the Channel of Discovery (29-46).
It’s a Generated channel that is part of the Sensing Circuit. This is the channel of serendipity. It’s being in the right place, at the right time, with the right people and committing to the experience. There’s a certain bit of luck in this channel. It carries the energy of succeeding where others fail (or failing where others succeed by time). With this channel, you’re here to get lost in experiences just for the sake of the experience.

Tapping into Gate 29’s Energy

How does Gate 29 show up in your chart, and how can you tap into that devotional energy? Start by taking a look at your own chart to see if Gate 29 is defined (the line is colored in)  or undefined (the line is blank). Next, look at the Sacral Center to see if it is defined (colored in) or undefined (blank).

Here are the possibilities:

Defined Gate 29 in a Defined Sacral Center

If Gate 29 is defined for you in a defined centre you have access to this energy always. It’s part of who you are. You walk through the world in a way that enjoys the experiences that are offered up to you. In your highest expression, you commit only to the things that you WANT to say yes to, and leave the rest.

Defined Gate 29 in an Undefined Sacral Center

If Gate 29 is defined for you in an undefined centre it is considered dormant. It will be activated when you are with someone who has Gate 46 (the Gate of Determination), defined OR when a planetary transit defines this gate.

Accessing Energy with an Undefined Gate 29

If Gate 29 is undefined for you, fear not! 
You’ll have access to the energy of this gate when you are with others who have it defined and/or through planetary transits. You can borrow this energy by being in the aura of someone who has it defined. 

Unveiling The Shadow of Gate 29

The shadow of Gate 29, according to Gene Keys, is half heartedness.
Richard Rudd (Gene Keys) explains that Gene Key 29 moves from half heartedness, through commitment, to devotion. Postponement can be postponing your own dreams for those of another or not taking on the true commitments we are here to make. Conversely, often we over commit and say yes to everything!!

A personal exercise for Gate 29 awareness

Journal about a time when you over committed or committed to the wrong thing. How did that play out for you? What lessons did you learn from it? Now journal about something that you’re fully committed to, maybe even devoted to. How does that feel, in contrast?

Embrace the Human Design Gate 29 Mantra:

I say yes only to the experiences that serve my highest good.
