Generator – Saturn Return – Purpose

Let’s dive into a Generator Human Design Chart Reading! We’ll look at her Saturn Return, defined and undefined centers, authority, and purpose and how these concepts relate to real life. Wait until you see how this person is living by her Human Design without even knowing it.

Here we’re looking at the chart of someone who is just about to turn 30, which means that she’s experiencing her first Saturn Return. 

We’re going to look at her Saturn Return, why that’s significant, how it may play out for her, and  some of the messages or lessons that it holds.

Saturn returns to the natal place in the chart approximately every 29 years. Most people will experience at least two Saturn returns in their lifetime. Some will even get to experience three returns. 

Saturn is said to hold our challenges. This planetary return will highlight the challenges of the Saturn gates in both the conscious and unconscious Saturn placements in the Human Design chart.

First things first. 

Generator Human Design Reading

This person is an emotional generator.
What makes her a generator is that her Sacral Centre is defined. This is the pink box, second from the bottom, in her chart. 

All generator types (generators and manifesting generators) will have a defined sacral centre.

Generators will have either a defined or undefined Throat Centre. 
The Throat Centre is the 3rd shape from the top. If it is defined, it will be coloured in brown. If it is undefined, it will be white.

This Generator has an undefined Throat Centre.

The undefined Throat Centre needs to verbally process their thoughts. They need to unpack what they’re thinking, through their voice. They need a sounding board. Often, people with their throat centre undefined will struggle to feel heard. They may seek attention in healthy or unhealthy ways in order to feel seen and heard. 

What does it mean to be a Human Design Generator?

Generators are here to work and to build because of the defined Sacral centre. Sacral energy is life force and work force energy. The trick as a Generator type (which includes Manifesting Generators), is to respond to life happening around you. Generators are not here to initiate, although we are all conditioned to do just that.

Generator Human Design Reading: Authority

This person has Emotional Authority in her design, which means that she’s going to be always riding this emotional wave. She actually has a deep emotional wave. The 39-55 channel is really a channel of depth. In it, she will experience high highs and low lows and the in between days will be kind of ‘meh’ and just going along with the flow. She won’t spend a lot of time in highs and lows, she’ll be more on an even keel. She’s going to play with this emotional wave throughout her life and it will most certainly play out in decision making for her.

When the emotional solar plexus is defined, it is your Human Design authority. This means that you’re going to have to ride the wave of emotions to land on a decision, and you’re never going to be 100% certain of anything. And that’s ok. The rule for this person, and anyone with emotional authority, is to never make a decision in the high or the low of their wave.

People with emotional authority in their Human Design are not designed to feel certain – ever. It’s said that if you can feel 70% certain of something, that’s solid.

Defined vs. Undefined Head and Ajna

This person also has open Head and Ajna centres so there’s a lot of uncertainty naturally built into this chart. With the open head center, she will have lots of inspirations, lots of ideas, and could be thinking about things that don’t matter (to her) a lot of the time. It’s often about other people’s questions and inspirations, and not her own. She will amplify the energies of those around her, especially those with a defined head, in that area.

The Ajna is all about certainty, decision making and holding onto beliefs. Her Ajna centre is open so she can be very open minded. Her beliefs can change and flow. She’s not fixated on any one thing. Decision making won’t come easily for her. Even ordering a meal in a restaurant can feel daunting! 

Between this and her defined emotional solar plexus, this person is built to always be kind of exploring and thinking, how do I feel about this?

Defined vs. Undefined G and Will Centers

The other thing that’s really important to note in this chart is that this person has an undefined G Center, which is outlined in yellow, and an undefined Will Center, which is outlined in pink.

Remember that in these undefined centers, we have great life lessons. There is opportunity for wisdom in our openness. This is also where we will amplify energies of those around us.

The G Center is all about direction and lovability. It’s geographically sensitive. When it’s open, or undefined, it makes you question your direction in life. Where am I going? What should I do with my life? Who am I?
So that’s another piece of the not being certain puzzle in this person’s chart.

The G centre also causes you to question your lovability. It truly is your sense of self.

With the open will center, we see questioning your value and worth, not understanding your own value, a tendency to undervalue yourself, and a tendency to feel like you have to prove yourself all the time. This could be proving yourself to yourself or to someone else.

These are some things to be aware of in this chart. These themes will play out for this person regularly. It’s part of her design. 

Generator Human Design Reading: Purpose

Her conscious Sun is in gate 47.
This is located at the top right hand side of the chart beside the Sun symbol.


70% of Human Design goes through the Conscious Sun. It’s an important piece of the puzzle, and can offer clues into the big question, “Why am I here?”

Gate 47 is the gate of realization. It’s about mindset. It is being true to your own values and your own inspiration, no matter what is happening around you. It’s having a deep faith in your own mindset and your own ability to stay strong.

Gate 22 is the conscious Earth. It’s the second number down on the right side of the chart. The earth is what grounds us.

Gate 22 is such a beautiful gate. It is the gate of grace. It is grace and surrender and having faith that you are supported. It is understanding and knowing in your heart and soul that you are always divinely supported. It is also the gate of the kidneys and the pancreas, which makes me smile because I know that this person has a sweet tooth like no other! Metaphysically, the pancreas is about taking in the sweetness of life. It’s interesting that this is part of what grounds her as well as holding lessons around taking in the sweetness of life.

Generator Human Design Reading: Saturn Return

This person is coming into her Saturn Return.
Her Saturn is in gate 30 consciously and gate 55 unconsciously. Gate 30 is a passionate gate. It’s called clinging fire in traditional Human Design. When we see someone with this energy in their chart, we know that they have some fire. We know they have a natural intensity that is felt by those around them because it is part of their aura. With this being in her Saturn, this is going to be something that comes up for her. There will be fire in the theme of her Saturn. Gate 55 is the gate of abundance. It’s a gate of deep faith. In her Human Design chart, it’s part of this deep emotional wave that she has, the  39- 55.

Around age 30, which is right where she’s teetering now, she’ll have situations or reasons to cling to her faith in abundance.  She’ll be asked to surrender to this faith and knowing that she is cared for. She’s being asked to stay grounded in faith and to  surrender to faith that she is supported. This is a big part of her chart, these are big life lessons for her as she comes into age 30. Really, it’s an exciting time for her.

This person has a lot of focused energy in her chart, because she has the 9-52 as part of her format energy. She has a focus and a concentration that you feel in her presence. Remember that in her wave, she has deep emotion. She also has gate 37, the gate of family and community and friendship. Gate 46 is significant for her because it’s about love of the body. It’s all about embodiment. It’s loving the body that you’re in on the journey through the planet. Collective love is in this gate. And I’m smiling as I say this, because when I look at this whole reading, I know that this person is a yoga and meditation teacher. And I just find that so beautiful that so many aspects of her chart lead us into the Oh, that makes sense that she is a yoga teacher and you know, breathwork and meditation and all of the things because there is such deep faith and spirituality and emotion in this chart. 

Many times people come to me and they look at the openness in their chart, open centers, white centers as I’m looking at them on this chart. And they think that it’s a bad thing. But it’s not a bad thing. Your open centers are where you have opportunity for wisdom.

Another quick thing that I would like to mention before I finish up here is that this person has an open spleen Center and gate 57 defined. Gate 57 is the most intuitive gate in the human design chart. It is also the gate of the right ear. It is an audible gate or a gate with some audio in it. It’s really interesting that  people with this gate hear things in the right ear. They are also often bothered by chattery type noises, tinny noises, noises that don’t seem to bother other people.

Often people with gate 57 will get intuitive hits in the right ear. So it’s really a cool gate to have and also the most intuitive gate in the Human Design chart. The spleen center is an awareness center in the body and part of it is awareness around intuition. It is the most intuitive center in the Human Design body graph. So this person is here to be wise about her intuition. So you layer that onto all of the rest of it. And you see this like spiritually gifted, faithful, trusting in abundance, grace and surrender, intuitive being who is here to both learn lessons and to teach us about love of the body love of the vessel that we’re in, how to step into our faith, all of these beautiful pieces how to hold true to our mindset. This person is living her life’s work without even understanding that she’s living her life’s work.

When we’re looking at purpose in the Generator Human Design Reading, we need to understand that purpose is not what you do, purpose is who you be.

Whether this person is teaching a yoga class, working with someone for breath work, sitting with a friend having coffee, making lunch with her children, whatever she’s doing, she is bringing ‘who she is,’ which is her true purpose, to every part of her life and that’s absolutely a beautiful thing.
