Introduction to Human Design Gate 49 and Gene Key 49

Human Design Gate 49 is The Gate of Rejection. This gate is all about principles. It’s where relationship agreements are made. Ra Uru Hu, the founder of Human Design, always said that this is the gate of agreements like, “You take out the trash, I’ll do the dishes.” When the trash isn’t taken out, we have a problem!
When a rule or a principle is broken, someone with this gate defined will either reject or be rejected. It’s known as the divorce gate. People with this gate are always wondering who will support or stand by them and hold to their principles.

Location of Gate 49 in your Human Design Chart

Gate 49 is located in the Emotional Solar Plexus center of the bodygraph or human design chart.

The 19-49 Channel and Gate 49’s Human Design Circuitry

Think of Human Design Circuitry as the circuit board that lies beneath the rest of your design. Circuitry is the thing that all other aspects are placed upon. It lays the foundation and the energies here never change.  

There are 3 main circuits in Human Design: Individual, Collective, and Tribal. 

In Gate 49, we see either great sensitivity or insensitivity. In gate 19 (which is the other side of this channel) we see sensitivity and often the ability to communicate with animals. Gate 49 is said to be either the energy of the breeder or the butcher. It’s one extreme or the other. 

This gate is part of the Channel of Synthesis (Channel 19-49).
It’s Tribal energy. If the whole channel is defined, the emotions housed there will come in waves and you’ll be what’s called an ‘Emotional Authority’ in Human Design.

Tapping into Gate 49’s Energy

How does Gate 49 show up in your chart, and how can you tap into that energy? Start by taking a look at your own chart to see if Gate 49 is defined (the line is colored in)  or undefined (the line is blank). Next, look at the Emotional Solar Plexus Center to see if it is defined (colored in) or undefined (blank).

Here are the possibilities:

Defined Gate 49 in a Defined Emotional Solar Plexus Center

If Gate 49 is defined for you in a defined centre you have access to this energy always. It’s part of who you are. Principles and agreements are of utmost importance to you. You may reject others or feel rejected several times in your lifetime.

Defined Gate 49 in an Undefined Emotional Solar Plexus Center

If Gate 49 is defined for you in an undefined centre it is considered dormant. It will be activated when you are with someone who has Gate 19 (the Gate of Need), defined OR when a planetary transit defines this gate.

Accessing Energy with an Undefined Gate 49

If Gate 49 is undefined for you, fear not! 
You’ll have access to the energy of this gate when you are with others who have it defined and/or through planetary transits. You can borrow this energy by being in the aura of someone who has it defined.

Unveiling The Shadow of Gate 49

The shadow of Gate 49, according to Gene Keys, is reaction.

In the lowest expression, this gate reacts emotionally, or overreacts emotionally to things. Richard Rudd (Gene Keys) explains that Gene Key 49 moves from reaction, through revolution, into rebirth. He says that our needs create expectations and then we’re often disappointed, so we react.

Where have you overreacted to something when your expectations were not met?
